Santiago de Compostela (July 6, 2021) - The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) has recently equipped itself with a Christie® 4K10-HS projector for its auditorium as part of the renovation project of the auditorium's audiovisual systems, carried out by the Vigo integration company Spica .

The USC, with its more than 500 years, is the university with the longest tradition in Galicia and one of the oldest in the world and is today recognized as “Campus of International Excellence”. The USC School of Medicine is emblematic both on a teaching and historical level (the teaching of medicine at USC has its origins in 1648).

"The intention of the University was to completely renovate the room so that it became a showcase for the center, both aesthetically and technologically," explains Tomás Alonso, account manager at Spica, the company responsible for the design and engineering of the entire project. which also included the installation of four robotic cameras, a Kramer audiovisual control solution with an 8x8 4K60 matrix, a wireless discussion system and line array audio columns.

The room is used to teach classes, professional conferences and institutional events. The installed Christie 4K10-HS , which was supplied by Charmex , is a 1DLP ® laser technology projector, 4K UHD resolution and 10,000 lumens. The USC uses it mainly for projection of medical images in formations and congresses.

“We were looking for a laser projector with high luminosity, 4K resolution and adapted to the specific needs that viewing medical images may have. Among the different characteristics that made us decide for it were the Dicom mode –a simulation mode for viewing medical images– and especially Christie's BoldColor technology, since the precision in color reproduction was very important ”, says Tomás Alonso .

As for the reason for choosing a 4K resolution equipment, Tomás tells us: “The University wanted a screen as large as possible (in this case it is six meters wide) and resolution was an important factor since it was necessary that the projected medical images were as real as possible ”.

The Christie 4K10-HS projector enables 4K @ 60Hz video transport with a single HDMI or Display Port cable, simplifying installation and cable routing. It also comes equipped with Christie Twist ™ software for warping and blending, and is compatible with Christie Mystique, a camera-based alignment software.
